Trying New Things is...

Scary? Hell yeah!  But also totally worth it.  Here are some new things I am trying...

Bikram YogaI have been dreading taking a Bikram Yoga class since I heard it existed.  But Katie is inspiring me to get out of the comfort zone. I bought a groupon to Sweatbox Yoga over two months ago and had yet to activate.  Today I packed up my mat, towel and water and walked down to 10th avenue very very slowly.  Everyone at SY was super nice and helpful.  And yes I survived through 90 minutes of sweaty goodness!  It was super intense (took multiple sit downs in order to not pass out) but I feel damn good.  It seems I am starting to replace that old, crotchety feeling with an energized happy body.

Coop Membership: Yesterday I did the 2 mile run down to Central Coop -- also a first for me.  I have shopped at coops before but never at Central and never have I thought about getting a membership (which I did today).  The store was even more exciting than Trader Joe's and I am a huge TJ and Two Buck Chuck fan.  I was able to stock up on some bulk items like buckwheat flour, hemp seeds and coconut oil. Now for the eating!

Vegan Recipes: For Christmas my brother gave me a copy of Thrive: The Vegan Nutrition Guide to Optimal Performance in Sports and Life.  It is filled with lots of tips on what to eat and why it will help you as an athlete or even just to feel less a victim of our caffeine ridden, processed food culture.  I personally like our culture and enjoy my espresso, take-out and beer based diet but I do understand that it has some pretty profound effects on my mood and health. So in the name of trying new things I made (from scratch): Chocolate Hemp Milk, Honey Nut Tofu Spread and later today I will whip up some Buckwheat Pancakes.

Chocolate Hemp Milk

31/2 cups water
1 cup hemp seeds
2 Tbsp carob powder (I used cacoa powder)
2 Tbsp agave

Mix in blender, great on cereal

Dinner: Zucchini Pasta with Sun dried tomato marinara (recipe)
