There is a link on the sidebar for Lazy Girl Running. She has a book as well (good motivation with a British accent..ex. "I am rubbish at running") Here is a post from blog on Tips for Beginner Runners.
I read the Non-runners Guide for Women when I trained for NYC marathon. It is hilarious, lots of stories about stopping half way to nap on park benches. Good overall tips for long distance running intertwined.
All time favorite is the excellent running/travel/anthropology read Born to Run... it mainstreamed the barefoot running movement; but also tells an inspiring story. Basically it will make you want to run and for a long time! The chai seed and agave elixir is a tried and true replacement for GU!
I have always wanted to read Murakami's memior What I Talk About When I Talk About Running... just ordered a copy!
